Located in South Vancouver, we are approximately 5 minutes away from Vancouver International Airport and the South Terminal in Richmond, BC. This allows us to ensure that your orders will make it on your next charter. We also deliver bulk, heavy or frozen items to barges and cold storage facilities in the Lower Mainland. If out of our service range, we can ship with a courier of your choice.

Our inventory includes frozen bait (both herring and anchovies), custom tied leaders, rods, reels and reel parts, line, lead, tackle and other essential equipment. Subject: FN0111-Halibut: Amendment to FN101 - Coastwide Opening and Limits

The department will implement a coastwide opening of the recreational halibut fishery:

Effective 00:01 hours March 1, 2009 fishing for halibut will be opened coastwide. The daily limit at the start of the season is one (1) per day with a possession limit of two (2).

The exception to this opening is:

Effective 00:01 hours March 1, 2009 to 23:59 hours December 31, 2009:

- No person shall fish for or retain halibut, rockfish and lingcod in Area 121 outside the 12 nautical mile limit seaward of a line that begins at 48 degrees 34.000 minutes North latitude and 125 degrees 17.386 minutes West longitude and continues south easterly at a bearing of 116 degrees True to a point at 48 degrees 28.327 minutes North latitude and 125 degrees 01.687 minutes West longitude.

- Electronic licence conditions will be continued as follows:

”no person who is not a Canadian resident may fish for or retain halibut under this licence in management Areas 121, 23 and 123.”

A reminder to recreational harvesters, that the waters of Swiftsure Bank, inside a line from 48°34.00'N and 125°06.00'W, thence to 48°34.00'N and 124°54.20'W, thence to 48°29.62'N and 124°43.40'W, thence following the International Boundary between Canada and the U.S. to 48°29.55'N and 124°56.20'W, thence in a straight line to the point of commencement, are closed to all finfish, all year.

Varation Order No. 2009-69

The decision to open the fishery later in the season on March 1 with a daily limit of one (1) halibut was not supported by the recreational sector. Despite the objections by the recreational sector for an earlier opening and an increased daily limit the department made the decision to open the fishery as indicated.

In an effort to open the recreational fishery while some key issues with respect to the 2009 management plan remain unresolved the limit was set at one (1) at the start of the fishery because this approach has a lower risk of exceeding the recreational catch share inseason and increases the probability of a seamless recreational fishing season. There is a possibility to increase the daily limit inseason if catch rates support an increase in harvest, however, mindful of staying within the allocation.

The department expects to meet with the recreational sector on the halibut management plan for 2009 in early March. The plan will include measures for monitoring and evaluating the catch in-season. Any changes in the management plan following these consultations will be announced in a subsequent Fishery Notice.
